See Pabkins create some art & open ATCitUp envelopes each week on Tuesdays @ 10:30AM PST on my TWITCH CHANNEL! July’s THEME: ARCHITECTURE MAIL TO Host by: August 1 – 7th (I ask you try to always mail by the first few days of the new month unless there is an extension.) Requirements: As always our normal standards apply of original 2.5 x 3.5 inch original hand drawn/colored/painted cards in your best efforts. Read this Guidelines page! and follow them or risk your cards not being swapped my lovelies! This is a long overdue challenge for us and something that I believe many of us often ignore but it is a key part of illustration. Please rise to the challenge and follow the theme criteria. If you don’t follow the requirements it is not fair to everyone else that does. And we might have to stick you inside a swimming pool full of lime jello and let you suffer a bit of delicious suffocation. Mmmm lime jello…. or worse yet…your cards would get sent back unswapped *gasp! The Horror!* THEME REQUIREMENTS: This month EVERY cards must feature ARCHITECTURE! That’s right, that means: buildings, houses, famous structures, urban areas, cityscapes, etc. To make things even more challenging: ONE card must be done FROM REFERENCE (Pick a photo or a structure that appeals to you, or draw from a real life structure, as long as you are recreating that structure from the actual reference. DO NOT USE SOMEONE ELSE’s ILLUSTRATION as your reference!! ONE card must be from YOUR IMAGINATION with a fantasy or Sci-fi twist! – for this you can use references to help you, for example look at some real photography of buildings and change/modify things, merge several different structures, etc – to change the architecture to something completely unique and your own. Other Card(s) – your choice. From reference or imagination, or merge the two. Cards can include character(s) but they do not have to since the main focus this month is on architecture. IMPORTANT DO NOTS! NO SILHOUETTE ONLY structures (don’t just draw the outline and color it in a solid color like a silhouette as that WILL NOT MEET THE CHALLENGE CRITERIA. The point of the challenge is to get comfortable with drawing architecture! This is about EXTERIOR structures, not interior structures. Thats an entirely different can of worms. DO NOT just draw the building so far off in the distance that it’s tiny and we simply know it’s a structure of some kind, again that is not in the spirit of the challenge theme. I SAY AGAIN! – DO NOT use someone else’s illustration as your REFERENCE card. It MUST be from a PHOTOGRAPH or real life. Most importantly DON’T be scared by this challenging theme folks! Embrace it and run with it. Have fun and take it as the learning opportunity to really delve into honing an artistic skill! I hope you will love it as much as I hope I will! SOME RESOURCES TO HELP YOU! This cool video of an illustrator building a structure from the ground up digitally. I thought it was useful because you get to see the basic forms so it might help seeing that sort of breakdown. Plus it was just really cool to watch! Here are a few different Pinterest boards loaded with some various architecture that I’ve been putting together the past few years since I find structural concept design to be absolutely fascinating and I love how it lends to the worldbuilding of scifi/fantasy worlds.
